Small Business Saturday is about more than shopping locally. It’s about supporting the many businesses that make up your very own community.
This year, the special day falls on November 26th, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and every year, more and more people participate.
“Since it started in 2010, consumers have reported spending an estimated $163 billion, based on an aggregate of average spending habits, at small businesses across all 12 Small Business Saturdays combined”, according to American Express.
Although businesses are grateful for the dollar amount, they – speaking for ourselves as well – are even more grateful for the loyalty you give to them and the year-round commitment you show them.
How can I participate in Small Business Saturday?
Every time you head to a farmer’s market for fresh vegetables or soaps, snag a unique treasure from a local pawn shop, or grab coffee from your favorite coffee shop in town, you’re making a difference.
We encourage you to Shop SmallⓇ whenever you have the chance, especially during the holidays. It is people like you that keep businesses like ours alive and thriving when many big brand department stores seem to take over.
At Queen of Pawns, we participate in Small Business Saturday all year by working with local artists. Artists are free to use one of the exterior and interior walls on each of our store’s locations as their canvas. The series of murals is a way to say “thank you” to our local communities.
The first piece called “Stronger Together” was created by Jennifer Chaparro, a locally based internationally acclaimed muralist, as a way to expand on the Queen of Pawns mission statement.
Jennifer proposed to make a mural with many hands weaving a multicolored ribbon to imply that Queen of Pawns was weaving a new relationship with our communities. The mandala in the center is the mandala of togetherness!
